| Why Fitch Attorneys? | |||||||||||||
| Why do you wish to undertake your pupillage with Fitch Attorneys? | My search on the GBA shows that Fitch Attorneys is made up of relatively young lawyers. I believe that such an environment will be quite conducive for me as a pupil, as the lawyers will be willing and ready to teach you. I am also attracted to the practice areas such as Tax and Energy. | ||||||||||||
| What attracts you to corporate and commercial legal practice? | it is an area of practice which spans across wide industries, including fintech, tax, energy, among others. this gives me the opportunity to gain knowledge on multiple areas of law and develop multiple skillsets | ||||||||||||
| Are you able to fully commit to a six (6) month to one (1) year pupillage? | Yes | ||||||||||||
| Professional Attributes | |||||||||||||
| Describe an achievement that best demonstrates your resilience, initiative or leadership. | I once partook in a debate competition at Legon campus with no knowledge of debating. our first contest was against some of the best debaters of the competition, who had to teach us how to debate on the spot. after a gruesome first round we managed to make it to the quarter finals of the competition | ||||||||||||
| What do you believe distinguishes an exceptional lawyer from a competent lawyer? | an exceptional lawyer is one who stands out in his field of work. they not only know the law but they exhibit same in a manner that catches attention. an exceptional lawyer pays attention to key details and always seeks to produce accurate work | ||||||||||||
| Describe a time you received constructive criticism. How did you respond? | As I was contesting for congress at GSL somer of my colleagues informed me that I was being too lackadaisical about the campaign. based on that I changed my strategy, becoming more engaging with campus members, which allowed me to get the position | ||||||||||||
| Commercial Awareness | Businesses increasingly expect lawyers to provide commercially practical solutions not merely legal opinions. | ||||||||||||
| Tell us about a recent legal, business or economic development that you believe every corporate lawyer should understand. | there has recently been a hike in fuel prices on the Ghanaian market. this is due to the blocking of the strait of Hormuz, which is one of the largest channels for the transportation of oil and petroleum products, leading to a global increase in the price of fuel. this is known as an external shock. every corporate lawyer should be aware of the fact that factors outside the country may affect business in Ghana and therefore be able to advice clients accordingly. | ||||||||||||
| Ethics | You discover that a senior lawyer has mistakenly included confidential information belonging to another client in a document that is about to be sent. | ||||||||||||
| What would you do? | my first cause of action would be to inform the senior lawyer about the mistake they have made and the ethical implications of sending out the document. should the senior lawyer not be in the office I could call their personal number or send them an e-mail to notify them if the mistake | ||||||||||||
