| Areas of Interest | |||||||||
| Which practice areas interest you? |
| ||||||||
| Why Fitch Attorneys? | |||||||||
| Why do you wish to undertake your pupillage with Fitch Attorneys? | I am attracted to Fitch Attorneys because of the firm’s commercial focus. My long term interest is to be a practitioner who combines corporate and commercial law with intellectual property. I believe Fitch’s diverse practice would provide an ideal foundation for my development. | ||||||||
| What attracts you to corporate and commercial legal practice? | What attracts me to corporate and commercial legal practice is the opportunity to understand how businesses operate and to use the law strategically to help clients achieve their commercial objectives. | ||||||||
| Are you able to fully commit to a six (6) month to one (1) year pupillage? | Yes | ||||||||
| Professional Attributes | |||||||||
| Describe an achievement that best demonstrates your resilience, initiative or leadership. | My long essay examined intellectual property rights protection in Ghana amid the rise of AI. With limited literature available, I took initiative in researching the topic and coordinated our analysis of these emerging legal issues. This developed my ability to tackle unfamiliar legal issues. | ||||||||
| What do you believe distinguishes an exceptional lawyer from a competent lawyer? | A competent lawyer is one who possesses the knowledge and skills to handle legal matters effectively. However, an exceptional lawyer is one who is innovative. An exceptional lawyer challenges the traditional approaches and is able to adopt a fresh perspective. | ||||||||
| Describe a time you received constructive criticism. How did you respond? | Constructive criticism from my advocacy lecturer transformed my approach to moot court. By advising me to trade rigid, scripted notes for deep factual mastery and composed eye contact, he helped me build true courtroom presence. | ||||||||
| Commercial Awareness | Businesses increasingly expect lawyers to provide commercially practical solutions not merely legal opinions. | ||||||||
| Tell us about a recent legal, business or economic development that you believe every corporate lawyer should understand. | Every corporate lawyer handling transactions in Ghana must understand the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) Act, 2026 (Act 1173), which replaced the GIPC Act, 2013 (Act 865). Act 1173 fundamentally rewrites foreign entry and deal execution rules by scrapping general foreign minimum capital thresholds while strictly criminalizing local proxy schemes. Failure to master this law will expose clients to severe financial penalties, tax non-deductibility, and statutory invalidity. | ||||||||
| Ethics | You discover that a senior lawyer has mistakenly included confidential information belonging to another client in a document that is about to be sent. | ||||||||
| What would you do? | I will first stop the dispatch process; stop and pending emails or physical delivery or court filing. I will then approach the senior lawyer in private and respectfully inform them about the mistake. Once they approve, I will rectify the mistake and resume the dispatch of the document. | ||||||||
